Cellobiohydrolase 1
The hydrolysis of cellulose involves three classes of cellulases: endoglucanases, exoglucanases, and beta-glucosidase. The second class, the exoglucanases, are comprised of two enzyme types. The first type, cellobiohydrolase I (CBH I), hydrolyzes the cellulose polymer from the reducing end. The second type, cellobiohydrolase II (CBH II), hydrolyzes the cellulose polymer from the non-reducing end. The product of this degradation is cellobiose, glucose dimers. Beta-glucosidase then hydrolyzes cellobiose into D-glucose.
